Junior Caminero Clubs 15th homer
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:01 PM
Caminero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Caminero opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second inning and also set the Rays on the comeback trail with an RBI single in the ninth. The third baseman has upped his power game with six homers, three doubles and 16 RBI over his last eight games. He's now at 15 long balls, 40 RBI, 34 runs scored, 13 doubles, four stolen bases and a .262/.293/.520 slash line through 58 contests overall.
Ryan Pepiot
Ryan Pepiot Gives up two homers in no-decision
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 10:57 PM
Pepiot allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Thursday.
Analysis: Pepiot allowed runs for the first time since his May 19 start versus the Astros. He surrendered solo home runs to Jake Burger and Marcus Semien in this contest, but he was spared the loss when the Rays rallied for a walk-off win in the ninth inning. Pepiot has logged six straight quality starts, allowing nine runs over his last 37.2 innings. He's at a 3.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 64:22 K:BB across 76 innings through 13 starts this season. His next outing is projected to be a road start in Boston.
Jake Mangum
Jake Mangum Resting Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 2:50 PM
Mangum isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Since returning from the injured list Friday, Mangum has gone 4-for-19 with a home run and five RBI in five games. He'll take a seat for Thursday's series finale, opening up a spot in left field for Christopher Morel.
Jose Caballero
Jose Caballero Sitting down Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 2:47 PM
Caballero isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: The Rays will give Caballero a day to regroup after he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Wednesday's contest. Taylor Walls will fill in at shortstop and bat eighth.
Brandon Lowe
Brandon Lowe Continues to rake in win
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 10:29 PM
Lowe went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: Lowe blasted his 12th homer of the season, and he added to a red-hot stretch at the plate recently. Across his last 20 games, the slugging second baseman is batting .359 (28-for-78) with seven homers, six doubles, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored. Lowe has seven multi-hit efforts during this period, also tallying at least one hit in 18 of these contests.
Pete Fairbanks
Pete Fairbanks Tallies save vs. Rangers
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 10:16 PM
Fairbanks tallied the save in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the Rangers, giving up one unearned run on one hit with no strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Analysis: Fairbanks still hasn't conceded an earned run since May 13, which has been a stretch of seven outings. The 31-year-old right-hander has settled into Tampa Bay's closer role nicely, logging a 1.10 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB over his last 16.1 innings. Fairbanks has successfully converted eight of his nine save chances during this period.
Shane Baz
Shane Baz Fans five in fifth win
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 9:34 PM
Baz (5-3) earned the win Wednesday against the Rangers after giving up three runs on five hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: While Baz did record the most punchouts in his past four outings, he remains without a quality start over his last seven appearances. It's worth noting Jonah Heim's 356-foot two-run shot in the fifth frame would have been a homer in only three MLB ballparks, per Statcast. The right-hander delivered a 2.45 ERA through his first five starts, but he's stumbled to a 7.26 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB across his last 31 innings. Baz will be looking to turn things around the next time he takes the mound, which lines up for early next week against the Red Sox.
Danny Jansen
Danny Jansen Out of lineup Wednesday
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 4:01 PM
Jansen is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis: Jansen will be getting a routine day off after starting the first game of the series Tuesday. Matt Thaiss will fill in behind the plate and bat seventh.
Shane McClanahan
Shane McClanahan Set for bullpen session
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 9:01 AM
McClanahan (triceps) threw a short box bullpen session Tuesday and has a full bullpen session scheduled for Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Rays continue to offer optimistic news about McClanahan, as imaging has revealed no structural issues with his arm. He'll continue to ramp up his throwing intensity but will be sidelined until after the All-Star break.
Pete Fairbanks
Pete Fairbanks Scoreless appearance
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:56 AM
Fairbanks threw a scoreless ninth inning without allowing a baserunner Tuesday against the Rangers.
Analysis: The Rays were up by four runs, so it was not a save chance for Fairbanks. However, he hadn't appeared in a game since May 24, so the appearance was good for some needed work. Fairbanks has turned in six consecutive scoreless appearances while racking up a 6:3 K:BB in that span.
Jake Mangum
Jake Mangum Tallies ninth stolen base
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:47 AM
Mangum went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Tuesday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Mangum has started four straight games since being activated from the injured list. He has only three hits across 15 at-bats, but he's delivered four RBI with a home run and a steal. Assuming he continues to get regular playing time, Mangum should be a solid source of batting average and stolen bases moving forward.
Ha-Seong Kim
Ha-Seong Kim Will play SS on rehab this week
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:46 AM
Kim (shoulder) is scheduled to play shortstop this week for the first time on rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Kim played second base in his last two games with Durham after being used at designated hitter in his first four contests. After picking up two hits in his first rehab game, the 29-year-old is hitless over his last five tilts. Recovering from right shoulder surgery, Kim is expected to be the Rays' primary shortstop once activated. However, since he's just now getting reintroduced to the position, has yet to play the field in back-to-back days and is off to a sluggish start at the plate, his return from the 60-day injured list wouldn't appear to be imminent.
Hunter Bigge
Hunter Bigge Asymptomatic, but not throwing
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:37 AM
Bigge (lat) is no longer feeling soreness but remains shut down from throwing, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Bigge had a setback with his right lat strain two weeks ago, so the Rays are taking things more slowly this time around. The right-handed reliever should be cleared to throw before long and will eventually need a rehab assignment. Bigge has been sidelined since early May.
Jonny DeLuca
Jonny DeLuca Shut down for three weeks
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:34 AM
DeLuca will be shut down for three more weeks following another setback last week with his injured right shoulder, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: DeLuca has been shelved since early April with a right shoulder strain and had to be pulled off a rehab assignment last week following a second setback. He'll begin ramping things back up again in late June, and a return before the All-Star break now appears unlikely.
Junior Caminero
Junior Caminero Adds late homer in win
Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 10:58 PM
Caminero went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two runs scored, one walk and one stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Caminero put the game out of reach Tuesday with a solo homer in the eighth inning. Though not known for his speed, the third baseman also swiped his fourth base of the season. The former top prospect has showcased plenty of pop, slugging .516 with 14 home runs. While a low walk rate has limited his on-base percentage to .294, an .810 OPS at age 21 is incredibly impressive.
Kameron Misner
Kameron Misner Slugs homer in win
Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 10:47 PM
Misner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Misner got the scoring started Tuesday with a wall-scraper solo homer in the second inning. After a strong April, the 27-year-old has struggled significantly of late. Over his past 30 games, the outfielder is slashing just .151/.232/.233 with only three extra-base hits. Misner's defensive versatility is a plus, but he'll have to improve offensively to receive consistent playing time.
Drew Rasmussen
Drew Rasmussen Extends scoreless streak
Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 10:34 PM
Rasmussen (5-4) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one hit and no walks over five scoreless innings against Texas. He struck out eight.
Analysis: Rasmussen has been nearly untouchable lately, and that dominance carried into Tuesday's win. The right-hander has fired 23 consecutive scoreless innings, last allowing a run May 11. In his previous three scoreless outings, the 29-year-old averaged just 4.3 strikeouts, but he showed encouraging swing-and-miss stuff Tuesday by fanning eight Rangers. After injuries disrupted his 2023 and 2024 campaigns, Rasmussen has settled into the rotation and is thriving in 2025.
Shane McClanahan
Shane McClanahan Nearing bullpen session
Mon, Jun 2, 2025, 9:31 AM
Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said Sunday in an interview with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that McClanahan (triceps) is expected to throw his first bullpen session Friday.
Analysis: McClanahan has been out all season after he was removed from his final appearance of spring training March 22 due to left triceps nerve irritation. Though Neander said that the Rays initially expected McClanahan to return from the injured list by the middle of April after follow-up tests on his arm revealed no structural problems, the nerve issue made it more difficult than anticipated for the lefty to regain strength. Just over two months after suffering the injury, McClanahan finally seems to be making some positive strides in his recovery, as he's been steadily increasing his throwing distance off flat ground in recent weeks. He'll take another important step forward in the rehab process when he gets back on the mound later this week, but he still has several more checkpoints to hit before he's activated from the 60-day IL. Neander acknowledged that "if all goes as planned from this point," McClanahan could be ready to join the Tampa Bay rotation "somewhere in late July or early August."
Taj Bradley
Taj Bradley Fans 10 in tough-luck loss
Sun, Jun 1, 2025, 10:28 PM
Bradley (4-5) took the loss Sunday against Houston, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out 10.
Analysis: Bradley and Hunter Brown were locked into a pitcher's duel Sunday, with the duo combining to allow just four hits and zero earned runs. So, a fielding error by Junior Caminero followed by an RBI single by Christian Walker was enough to give Bradley his third loss in four starts. Bradley has allowed fewer than three earned runs in six of his last seven starts, and he's now thrown seven innings in back-to-back outings. On the year, Bradley has a 3.95 ERA and a 64:27 K:BB over 70.2 innings. He's on track to face the Marlins next time out.
Ben Rortvedt
Ben Rortvedt Goes unclaimed off waivers
Sun, Jun 1, 2025, 3:08 PM
Rortvedt accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Durham on Sunday after clearing waivers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Rortvedt cleared waivers after Tampa Bay designated him for assignment Wednesday, and because he's logged more than three years of MLB service time, he had the ability to reject a minor-league assignment. After weighing his options, however, Rortvedt determined he was best suited remaining in the Tampa Bay organization. He's no longer on the Rays' 40-man roster but could get a call-up if Tampa Bay loses fellow catchers Danny Jansen or Matt Thaiss to an injury at any point.
